Why Instagram is a no-brainer for your business
Instagram is a growing social media platform with more than 1 billion users registered in 2018. Instagram is a fantastic promotional tool for your business and the best part is that it is free to set up and use, with various advertising options added on if you want them.
Instagram is simply a photo sharing platform with added options of adding videos and Stories- those short snapshots of your day that appear for 24 hours at the top of your profile. Adding short descriptions and hashtags to your post ensure your followers see your best bits and show your promotions and offers to those looking for a brand or service in your area.
There are ways to link your Instagram to your Facebook page or to scheduling software like Hootsuite but don’t get too caught up in that until you’ve got the basics. Here are a few basic set up tips to get you off the ground.
- Give a clear and concise description of your business in the biography section. Make sure you link your website and share your location.
- Share a photo of something you are proud of. Do you have a great new range of frames you want people to see? Make sure they look brilliant using the options to edit and filter pictures that you see under the upload of your picture. Practice makes perfect so keep playing around with these settings until you get it just right. There are no rules on Instagram so share anything you want people to see. We have seen some great posts from our members showing off their brilliant team, customers, services and equipment they have invested in.
- Keep your picture descriptions clear and easy for people to search. You are not limited the way you are on Twitter so you can go longer but don’t make them too long that people scroll past! Make sure you include hashtags at the end that are relevant to your post that people may be looking for in your area. If you use Google adwords, you will be able to see what people have searched for to find you in the past, so if they are relevant pop them in.
- Be spontaneous! Don’t be afraid to ask customers and staff if you can take pictures of them and make them insta-famous. Successful posts are often those including ‘real people’ so don’t be shy!
