What can networking do for my business?
When we ask members which benefit of SightCare membership they find invaluable, the answer is often the same: networking. Why is networking so important and if you don’t see the value, here’s why should you consider attending networking events:
1. Community and Friendships
A small business owner can find it isolating without daily contact with lots of different people and without a corporate structure to escalate issues up the management chain. Being part of a small business community like SightCare gives you access to people to chat to, seek advice from, share ideas with – all of whom are in the same industry boat as you.
I can’t count the number of members I have seen with patients re-locating to a different part of the country and asking fellow members if they will continue to look after their patient. If you are part of a respected independent networking group, you generally trust others in the same group to provide the same excellent service that you do.
3. Advice, Knowledge Sharing and Ideas Generation
There’s nothing like seeking advice on a problem from people who have been there and done that. Drawing on the experience of peers who have attempted to or successfully implemented an idea that you are currently considering is invaluable. Talking to peers can stimulate ideas and creativity in a way that is hard to achieve on your own.
Going to networking events and getting talking to people may not come naturally to you….but it will get you practicing small talk and getting to know different people – all of which will come in handy when dealing with patients back in practice.
Networking can open the door to talk to people that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to easily talk to or find. Remember you are not just gaining exposure to the people in the room, you are building connections with their network too. Relationships within your industry sector with other business leaders are crucial
6. Staying Current
In an ever-changing economic climate it is important to keep up with trends in your industry. Attending conferences, workshops, webinars and belonging to online networking platforms like our email forum, facebook groups etc and networking with your peers and business associates on a regular basis will help you stay current.
