Katie Memory (MBA)
Following a 13-year management career with Gillette in sales and marketing in both the retail and business to business divisions, I took two years out of work in 2001 to do a Masters degree in business (MBA) at Aston University.
My career in optics started in 2003 when I established a sales and marketing consultancy business. Among my first clients was Memory Opticians. Initially, I developed and implemented the company marketing plan including an advertising, PR and events programme. In December 2004 I joined Memory Opticians on a full-time basis. My key responsibility was to recruit and manage a new team of professional and support staff for the Salisbury practice. In April 2007 I took over the role of Managing Director of Memory Opticians and have since been responsible for the commercial running of all three branches within the Group. In 2011 I obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing through ABDO College and Canterbury Christchurch University. This has helped to underpin my commercial knowledge with a sound understanding of the professional aspects the optical sector.
In 2013 I spoke at the Sight Care One-Day Conference and at the Regional Meetings. Those that heard me will know how much value I attach to the patient journey and the importance I attach to differentiation through ‘personal service’ for the independent sector. I am passionate about the success of the independent sector and would relish being given the opportunity of playing my part within Sight Care, an organisation I see as being crucial for the development of the sector.
